Woman killed after rock thrown from Concord road bridge smashes car on R24

A routine morning drive turned into a nightmare on Thursday when a woman was killed on the R24 freeway. The tragedy occurred near Bedfordview at roughly 7:38 am as she was traveling along the eastbound carriageway.

A heavy rock was reportedly thrown from the Concord Road Bridge, just before the Gillooly's Interchange. The projectile shattered the woman's windscreen and struck her directly, causing catastrophic head injuries.

After being hit by the rock, the driver lost control of her vehicle and slammed into the road barriers. Emergency responders arrived on the scene shortly after, but the victim was tragically declared dead at the site of the crash.

The Ekurhuleni Metro Police have confirmed that an inquest docket has been opened at the Bedfordview police station. As of now, no arrests have been made, and officials are pleading with any witnesses to provide information that could lead to a breakthrough.
