Son sets other's container home alight after argument in Oakford, KZN
A 66-year-old woman lost everything when her son reportedly set her residence ablaze after a heated argument with his partner.

A quiet Tuesday evening in Oakford Village turned into a disaster for a 66-year-old pensioner after her son allegedly set her container home on fire. The incident occurred on 11 August 2026, following a domestic dispute involving the suspect and his girlfriend.
Reaction Unit South Africa (RUSA) was alerted to the scene just after 19:00 by concerned community members. Upon their arrival, they discovered the metal dwelling completely engulfed in flames, with the suspect already having fled the premises.
Desperate Efforts to Save the Home
Nearby residents did not stand by idly as the fire spread. In a frantic attempt to salvage the elderly woman’s belongings, locals used water from a nearby JoJo tank to try and douse the inferno.
Despite their quick thinking and brave efforts, the intensity of the blaze was too much to handle. The structure and all its contents were ultimately reduced to ash, leaving the elderly homeowner with nothing but the clothes on her back.
Suspect Still at Large
The victim informed responding officers that her 47-year-old son had been heavily intoxicated at the time of the incident. She explained that his anger shifted toward her home after he finished arguing with his girlfriend.
While the loss of property is devastating, authorities confirmed that no one was injured or killed in the fire. The suspect remains at large, and his whereabouts are currently unknown to his family and the community.
Public reaction to the incident has been one of outrage and sympathy for the pensioner. Social media users have expressed their heartbreak over the loss of her personal documents and hard-earned possessions in such a senseless act.
