Mpumalanga Taxi Boss Joe ‘Ferrari’ Sibanyoni served notice by Madlanga Commission

Mpumalanga’s well-known taxi mogul, Joe 'Ferrari' Sibanyoni, is facing fresh heat from the Madlanga Commission. The commission, which is currently digging into organized crime and corruption, has officially served the businessman with a Rule 10.6 Notice.

This formal legal step requires Sibanyoni to provide written responses to specific allegations. His legal team confirmed receipt of the notice last week, signaling that investigators are zooming in on activities within the Kwaggafontein taxi sector.

The Fight Against Shadow Syndicates

The Madlanga Commission is reportedly exploring whether criminal networks have infiltrated the taxi industry. While the commission has remained tight-lipped about who will eventually take the stand in public hearings, the notice sent to Sibanyoni suggests he has significant questions to answer.

Investigators are specifically interested in allegations of extortion and money laundering. These queries form part of a broader look into how taxi operations might be linked to organized crime syndicates across the province.

Mounting Legal Troubles

This commission inquiry is just one of several legal battles currently haunting the 60-year-old businessman. Sibanyoni was previously arrested by a Special Task Force alongside three other associates: Mvimbi Daniel Masilela, Philemon Msiza, and Oupa Sindane.

The state claims the group ran a protection racket that squeezed over R2 million out of a local businessman between 2022 and 2025. All four suspects are currently out on bail as the criminal case proceeds through the Kwaggafontein Magistrate's Court.

A Target and a Suspect

Sibanyoni’s name has also appeared in court records as a victim of the very violence that plagues the industry. Underworld figure Vusimuzi 'Cat' Matlala is currently accused of trying to have 'Ferrari' assassinated during a 2022 ambush.

As the Madlanga Commission continues its work, the focus has also shifted toward KwaZulu-Natal. There, officials are probing similar patterns of hits, drug syndicates, and potential corruption within law enforcement agencies.
