Marvel Studios has finally found its weather-wielding mutant. During the D23 event in Anaheim, California, Kevin Feige announced that Broadway standout Maya Boyd will take on the iconic role of Storm in the upcoming X-Men reboot.

The 23-year-old actress joins an ensemble cast that includes Sadie Sink as Jean Grey and Kit Connor as Cyclops. The film, directed by Jake Schreier, is currently scheduled to arrive in theaters on May 5, 2028.

A Rising Star from the Stage

Before landing the role of a lifetime, Boyd was already making waves in New York. She made her Broadway debut in the acclaimed revival of 'Merrily We Roll Along' and later starred as the lead in the musical '& Juliet'.

Her theatrical range extends beyond musicals, as she recently appeared in August Wilson’s 'Joe Turner’s Come and Gone.' This production was directed by Debbie Allen and featured Hollywood heavyweight Taraji P. Henson.

Boyd is a graduate of the University of Michigan, where she earned a BFA in musical theatre. Remarkably, her professional career took off so quickly that she was performing on Broadway while still completing her senior year of college.

Born on November 26, 2002, the actress will be 25 years old when the X-Men film makes its world premiere. She follows in the footsteps of Halle Berry, who originally brought the character to life on the big screen.
