‘Fast Forever’ Updates: Projected Release Date, Cast and More

The long-running journey of Dom Toretto is nearing its final destination. Vin Diesel has finally provided concrete details on the franchise’s eleventh and concluding chapter, titled 'Fast Forever,' as the original 2001 film returns to theaters for a special anniversary run.

Mark Your Calendars for 2028

Universal has set a target theatrical release date of March 17, 2028. While fans have waited since the 2023 release of 'Fast X,' the gears are officially turning again with production scheduled to begin shortly.

Diesel confirmed that cameras will begin rolling this December. The actor noted that the timeline is dependent on meeting a final request from the studio, but the road map for the finale is now clearly defined.

A Script Worthy of a Finale

Getting the story right was a marathon process involving four years of development and multiple writing teams. Diesel shared on social media that the final script by Michael Lesslie is "the best script I have read in decades," admitting the material moved him to tears.

The actor emphasized the weight of the project, stating he went through four sets of writers to ensure the conclusion was "worthy of a finale." The story is expected to provide a definitive closure for the character of Brian O’Conner, originally played by the late Paul Walker.

Returning Family and Legacy

Louis Leterrier is set to return to the director's chair after helming the previous installment. While the full ensemble hasn't been officially confirmed, franchise staples like Michelle Rodriguez and Tyrese Gibson were recently seen alongside Diesel celebrating the series' 25th anniversary.

Even as the main saga concludes, the brand remains a powerhouse for Universal with over $7.3 billion in global earnings. Fans can also look forward to a spinoff series currently being developed for Peacock.

Before the new film arrives, nostalgic fans can catch the movie that started it all when the original film returns to the big screen on August 21 to commemorate a quarter-century of street racing history.
