Céline Dion’s Health Updates: What Is Stiff-Person Syndrome?

The world-renowned voice behind “My Heart Will Go On” is officially heading back to the stage. After nearly four years of battling Stiff-Person Syndrome (SPS), a rare neurological disorder that forced her into a long hiatus, Céline Dion has announced a new series of concerts in Paris beginning September 2026.

This comeback follows a difficult period that saw the five-time Grammy winner cancel her Courage world tour in 2023. At the time, Dion expressed heartbreak over the decision, telling fans it was only fair to stop performing until she was truly ready to give her all again.

Understanding the Diagnosis

Dion first shared her diagnosis in December 2022, revealing she was suffering from a condition that affects only one or two in a million people. The disorder causes muscle rigidity and severe spasms, which can be triggered by sudden noises, cold weather, or even emotional stress.

In a candid 2026 interview with Harper’s Bazaar, the singer revealed she had actually been managing symptoms for 17 years before receiving an official name for her struggles. She noted that the condition affected her ability to walk and use her vocal cords at their full capacity, requiring a specialized team of doctors to manage.

The Road to Recovery

Despite false death rumors that circulated in mid-2025, Dion has remained focused on her rehabilitation. Her sister, Claudette, has been a source of updates for fans, often speaking about Céline’s discipline and the family's hope for a full recovery despite the lack of a known cure.

Dion’s recovery routine is nothing short of athletic. To prepare for her upcoming September 12 residency start, she has committed to 90-minute Pilates sessions, ballet classes, and intensive vocal therapy, alongside immunotherapy and new medications.

A Triumphant Return

Fans have already seen glimpses of the star’s progress. She made a surprise appearance at the 2024 Grammys and delivered a stunning performance at the Paris Olympics opening ceremony later that year.

As she prepares for her first full concert since July 2019, Dion is embracing a positive outlook. "I’m getting the best birthday gift of my life," she told fans regarding her return, proving that her legendary spirit remains as strong as her voice.
