Karoline Leavitt, the trailblazing White House Press Secretary who made history as the youngest person to ever hold the title, has announced her departure from the administration. The 28-year-old will officially step down at the end of August 2026.

The decision comes shortly after Leavitt returned from maternity leave. She and her husband, real estate developer Nicholas Riccio, welcomed their second child, a daughter named Viviana, in May of this year.

Trump Offers Praise for Departing Aide

President Donald Trump confirmed the news via Truth Social on August 12, expressing his full support for her choice. He described Leavitt as "one of my most trusted aides" and emphasized that he respects her need to prioritize her young children.

Though she is leaving the briefing room, she isn't leaving the political circle entirely. The President noted that "Karoline will now be one of my top outside advisors," shifting her focus toward the upcoming midterm election cycle.

A Record-Breaking Tenure

Leavitt took on the role at just 27 years old when Trump returned to the Oval Office in January 2025. By doing so, she eclipsed Ronald Ziegler, who previously held the record for youngest press secretary at age 29 during the Nixon era.

Her time in the spotlight was marked by high-pressure moments, including a rapid return to work in 2024 following the birth of her first son, Niko. She rejoined the campaign trail immediately after the assassination attempt on Trump in Pennsylvania.

Life Beyond the Briefing Room

Leavitt’s personal life has often been a point of public interest due to what she calls an "atypical love story" with Riccio, who is 32 years her senior. The couple wed in early 2025, just before the inauguration.

As of mid-August, the White House has not named a successor to take over the podium. Several potential candidates are reportedly being considered to fill the vacancy left by her exit.
