SAPS hunts Simiso Phakathi for murder of girlfriend in Orlando East, Soweto

The South African Police Service has launched a public manhunt for Simiso Silomo Phakathi following the brutal murder of his girlfriend in Orlando East, Soweto. The 27-year-old suspect is currently at large after the victim's body was discovered in the room they shared.

Jabulisile Josephina Tshabalala, aged 37, was last seen alive on 7 August 2026. Nearly a week later, on 13 August 2026, her body was found hidden beneath a pile of blankets and clothes. Investigations revealed she had suffered multiple fatal stab wounds.

Warrant Issued for 'Dangerous' Suspect

Police have officially issued a J50 warrant for Phakathi’s arrest. SAPS has warned the public that the suspect is considered dangerous and should not be approached. They have also cautioned that anyone found helping him evade capture could face legal consequences.

Officers have urged Phakathi to hand himself over to the nearest police station immediately. In a firm statement, authorities emphasized that they will not stop following leads until the suspect is brought before a court to answer for the crime.

Intensified Crackdown on Femicide

The search for Phakathi coincides with Women’s Month, a period where SAPS has committed to intensifying its efforts against gender-based violence. This case is one of several being prioritized as police work to clear the backlog of suspects wanted for crimes against women and children.

This incident follows a string of violent crimes reported nationwide, including a recent case in the Northern Cape where a man was jailed for a horrific assault in the presence of a toddler. SAPS maintains a zero-tolerance policy toward such acts of brutality.
