SAPS hunts 40-year-old Hlengiwe Buthelezi for murder of DJ Warras in Johannesburg

The South African Police Service is intensifying its search for a woman believed to be involved in the killing of Warrick Stock, a well-known media personality and security entrepreneur. Stock, famously known as DJ Warras, was gunned down in late 2025.

Detectives from Gauteng’s Serious and Violent Crimes unit have officially named Hlengiwe Goodness Buthelezi as a primary suspect. The 40-year-old is facing serious charges, including murder and conspiracy to commit murder.

Fatal Ambush in Johannesburg CBD

The tragic incident occurred on 16 December 2025 outside the Zambesi Building in the heart of the Johannesburg Central Business District. At the time of the attack, Stock was performing his duties as a security business owner.

He was reportedly managing operations at a hijacked building when he was targeted. The shooting claimed his life at the scene, ending his career as both a broadcast figure and a safety professional.

Previous Convictions and Hired Hits

This latest development follows the legal proceedings involving Armindo Pakula, a 25-year-old Mozambican national who previously admitted to the murder. Pakula confessed to accepting a payment of R25,000 to carry out the hit.

While Pakula has faced the court for his role in the killing, police are now focused on the figures who allegedly orchestrated the crime. The hunt for Buthelezi is seen as a critical step in bringing the full conspiracy to light.

Public Appeal for Information

Law enforcement has released images of Buthelezi to help the public identify her. Investigators are urging anyone with information on her current location to step forward and assist the SAPS Provincial Investigation Unit.

Those who have tips can contact Detective Sergeant Nengovhela directly at 082 967 9362. Alternatively, anonymous reports can be filed via the Crime Stop hotline at 08600 10111 or through the MySAPS mobile app.
