Reiger Park shooting second accused alleges police assault in court
A 24-year-old suspect alleging police assault has appeared in court alongside his co-accused for the fatal shooting of four people, including two officers.

The legal proceedings surrounding the deadly Reiger Park shooting have taken a contentious turn. Jamal Meyer, the second individual arrested in connection with the massacre, has formally accused members of the police force of physical assault.
During his Tuesday appearance at the Boksburg Magistrates Court, the 24-year-old's legal representative, Samkele Kuzani, detailed a series of physical injuries. According to the defense, Meyer is suffering from multiple bruises, lacerations, and persistent chest pains allegedly inflicted following his Sunday arrest.
Medical Intervention and Heavy Charges
Due to the severity of the reported injuries, the court has granted a request for Meyer to receive immediate medical attention. The young suspect is currently facing four counts of murder and one count of attempted murder.
Meyer is standing trial alongside Regan Collis. Both men are implicated in the high-profile attack that claimed four lives earlier this month, a tragedy that included the deaths of two South African police officers.
Alibi Claims and Gang Rivalry
While Meyer focuses on his assault claims, his co-accused, Regan Collis, is leaning on technical evidence. Leaked CCTV footage reportedly shows Collis at a private residence during the time of the shooting, potentially contradicting the state's timeline.
Collis’s family maintains that he is a victim of a setup by the 'Sour Boys' gang. The case has also drawn political attention, with Minister Gayton McKenzie previously claiming he facilitated the arrest of suspects through a confidential informant who refused to deal directly with the police.
What Happens Next
The court has decided to postpone the matter to allow for further investigation and medical assessment. Both Meyer and Collis are scheduled to return to the dock for a formal bail application on 25 August 2026.
