Reiger Park murders: Second suspect Jamal Meyer appears in court over fatal shooting
A 24-year-old man has appeared in the Boksburg Magistrates' Court following a deadly shooting that claimed the lives of two civilians and two elite police officers.

The legal proceedings surrounding a horrific shooting in Reiger Park have intensified following the first court appearance of a second suspect. Jamal Meyer, 24, stood before the Boksburg Magistrates' Court on Tuesday, 18 August 2026.
Meyer was apprehended on 16 August 2026 after an intensive manhunt involving several law enforcement branches. The fatal incident he is linked to resulted in the deaths of two civilians and two members of the Anti-Gang Unit earlier this month.
Joint Task Force Crackdown
The arrest was the result of a coordinated effort by the Hawks, the Ekurhuleni Metropolitan Police Department, the Flying Squad, and the Anti-Gang Unit. Authorities credit information provided by the Reiger Park community as a vital component in tracing the suspect.
Meyer will now be tried alongside 23-year-old Regan Cheslyn Collis, who was processed by the court the previous week. The state is processing the two young men together as the investigation into the quadruple homicide continues.
Bail Hearing and Security Measures
The court has postponed the matter until 25 August 2026 to facilitate a formal bail application. Both Meyer and Collis are expected to appear together during the upcoming proceedings as the case moves forward.
Collis is currently being detained at Modderbee Prison, a move dictated by specific security concerns. The National Prosecuting Authority emphasized its ongoing partnership with the SAPS to ensure all responsible parties are held accountable for the violence.
While the prosecution prepares its case, the Reiger Park community remains on edge following the loss of four lives. The involvement of elite police units highlights the severity of the charges facing the two suspects.
