NCC MP Fadiel Adams denies state capture 2.0 claims at Madlanga Commission
National Coloured Congress MP Fadiel Adams has dismissed claims by KZN Police Commissioner Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi as defamatory and baseless.

National Coloured Congress MP Fadiel Adams took the hot seat at the Madlanga Commission of Inquiry in Pretoria this week. He wasted no time in refuting explosive allegations made against him by KZN Provincial Commissioner, Lieutenant General Nhlanhla Mkhwanazi.
The MP denied being part of a so-called 'State Capture 2.0' scheme aimed at destabilizing elite police units. Adams insisted that such serious accusations require concrete evidence and labeled the Commissioner's testimony as potentially defamatory.
Clash Over Police Conduct
The testimony turned tense as Adams addressed Mkhwanazi's previous suggestion that the MP should visit Pollsmoor Prison. Adams slammed the comment, stating it was deeply concerning to hear such rhetoric from a senior officer in the South African Police Service.
He argued that the Commissioner’s remarks suggested an attitude of being above the law. According to Adams, a high-ranking officer should exhibit more restraint and accountability rather than making unchecked statements at a formal inquiry.
Disputed Complaints and Credibility
The dispute also covers formal complaints Adams previously lodged regarding SAPS operations. While Mkhwanazi claimed these complaints were baseless and meddled in internal police matters, Adams maintained that his actions were entirely appropriate for his role.
However, the MP's standing at the commission has faced further scrutiny following reports of admissions regarding false testimony. The possibility of perjury charges is now looming as the public questions the validity of his conflicting claims.
The Madlanga Commission is set to continue its investigation into the conduct and leadership within SAPS. Various high-profile witnesses are expected to testify as the inquiry seeks to untangle allegations of corruption and administrative interference.
