The South African music industry is reeling after the sudden passing of Scebi Dlamini, the popular maskandi artist known to fans as Inkosi Yamagcokama. The 29-year-old musician lost his life in a car accident while en route to a performance at a festival in Richards Bay.

Funeral proceedings for the young star are set for Saturday, 15 August 2026. The service will be held at Fabeni Stadium in KwaDungamanzi, located in the Msinga region of KwaZulu-Natal.

Peers Halt Careers to Pay Respect

In a display of deep industry solidarity, several maskandi heavyweights have paused their own careers to honor Dlamini. Artist Sfanele 'Mzuku' Zulu opted to cancel his scheduled Cape Town appearance to ensure he could be present for the mourning period.

Thandeka Radebe also made a major sacrifice by delaying the launch of her new album, 'Kuyoshiyana Ukwenza'. Originally slated for mid-August, the release was moved to show reverence for the late musician.

Cultural Tributes and Support

The support for Dlamini’s family has extended beyond social media posts. Fellow artist Mjolisi personally visited the family home in Msinga and donated two cows and a sheep to assist with traditional funeral preparations and costs.

Social media has also been moved by footage of maskandi star Mthandeni visiting the Dlamini household. A video of his emotional address to the family has gone viral, highlighting the profound impact Scebi had on his colleagues.

At just 29, Dlamini had already cemented his place within the genre, earning respect from veteran artists and newcomers alike. His death marks a somber week for the Msinga community, which is also preparing to lay Gumu Gupta Langa to rest on Friday, 14 August.
