Malmesbury teen arrested after FBI links him to violent '764' network exploiting children
A joint operation involving the FBI and SAPS has resulted in the arrest of a minor allegedly involved in an international child exploitation ring.

Authorities in the Western Cape have apprehended a 16-year-old boy from Malmesbury following an extensive international investigation. The teenager is allegedly connected to a notorious global online syndicate known as '764,' which is infamous for the sexual exploitation and coercion of children.
The South African Police Service (SAPS) moved in on the minor on Monday, 18 August 2025. He faces multiple charges, including the possession, facilitation, and downloading of child sexual abuse material (CSAM), and was scheduled for an initial appearance at the Malmesbury Magistrates' Court shortly after his arrest.
Global Intelligence Led to Local Raid
The breakthrough came after the United States Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), alongside the National Centre for Missing and Exploited Children, flagged a South African suspect to local police. This intelligence exchange prompted a high-stakes operation involving US Homeland Security and various specialized SAPS units.
The '764' network is described by law enforcement as a particularly violent online community. It relies on manipulation, blackmail, and extreme coercion to force vulnerable minors into creating explicit content. Beyond child abuse, the network is also associated with graphic acts of animal torture.
Disturbing Evidence Found on Devices
During the raid at the suspect's Malmesbury residence, officers seized various electronic devices. A preliminary sweep of the hardware reportedly revealed graphic images and videos showing child abuse and the mutilation of animals.
Forensic experts are now combing through the data to uncover the full scope of the teenager's digital footprint. Investigators hope the analysis will help identify other potential victims, as well as additional suspects involved in the network's local or international operations.
Ongoing Investigation and Further Charges
While several child victims have already been identified through this probe, police believe there could be more. SAPS confirmed that the investigation is far from over, with authorities currently weighing the addition of fraud and money laundering charges against the accused.
The operation saw collaboration between the Head Office Occult Unit, the Paarl Family Violence, Child Protection and Sexual Offences Unit, and the Western Cape Crime Scene Investigation Unit, highlighting the severity of the allegations.
