‘Heated Rivalry’ Season 2: Cast, Release Date & All Updates So Far

After setting screens ablaze with its November 2025 debut, the adaptation of Rachel Reid’s Game Changers novels is officially coming back for more. The series, which tracks the clandestine romance between rival hockey captains Shane Hollander and Ilya Rozanov, became a viral sensation almost overnight.

Fans who binged the initial six episodes on HBO and Crave can breathe a sigh of relief. The show’s massive global success prompted an early renewal, with creator Jacob Tierney and producer Brendan Brady expressing their gratitude for the show's transition into an international phenomenon.

Production Timeline and Premiere Dates

While fans are eager for a quick turnaround, they will have to wait a bit longer for the puck to drop. Production was scheduled to commence in August 2026, with the creative team currently targeting a premiere in the spring of 2027.

Industry insiders suggest an April 2027 release is the most likely window. This upcoming installment will shift focus to adapt The Long Game, the sequel novel that explores the evolving complexities of Shane and Ilya's high-stakes relationship.

New Faces Join the Roster

The core duo of Hudson Williams and Connor Storrie are confirmed to return, alongside François Arnaud and Robbie G.K. However, the locker room is getting much bigger with a host of new talent joining the production for the second season.

Justice Smith and Charlie Gillespie have been cast as Harris Drover and Troy Barrett, characters familiar to readers of the book Role Model. Other notable additions include Schitt's Creek alum Emily Hampshire, Edvin Ryding, and Sabrina Jalees.

A Shift in Tone

Creator Jacob Tierney has teased that the new episodes will move away from the frantic energy of the first season. At a BookCon appearance, he noted that the adaptation is entering "much more serious territory" as the characters mature.

Tierney promised that while the signature steaminess and flirting remain, the narrative will trade adolescent hotel-room flings for a deeper exploration of love under the spotlight. "Shane and Ilya must decide if there’s room in their fiercely competitive world for something as fragile – and powerful – as real love."
