Egg Recall 2026: See the Full List of Affected Brands and States
A nationwide health alert has been upgraded to the highest risk level after millions of eggs were linked to dozens of illnesses.

Grocery shoppers are being urged to inspect their refrigerators following a significant escalation in a major egg recall. The FDA has officially classified the situation as Class I, the most severe category, indicating that consuming the affected products could lead to grave health issues or even fatalities.
The recall involves more than 19 million individual eggs produced by Midwest Poultry Services. Data from the CDC confirms that a salmonella outbreak linked to these products has already resulted in 98 illnesses and 26 hospitalizations across 17 different states.
Affected Brands and Retailers
The contaminated batches were sold under several well-known labels, including Kroger, Simple Truth, Brookshire’s, Country Morning, and Cal-Maine Sunups. Both standard white eggs and cage-free brown varieties are included in the warning, with packaging sizes ranging from half-dozen cartons to bulk 60-count flats.
Primary distribution occurred through retailers in Texas, Oklahoma, Louisiana, Arkansas, Mississippi, and New Mexico. However, officials warn that the eggs may have reached shelves in additional states through various foodservice channels and smaller independent grocers.
How to Identify Tainted Cartons
Consumers should look for specific identifiers on their egg packaging to determine if they are at risk. The recall covers products with plant codes P-1950 or 0840962, featuring Julian dates between 157 and 184.
Additionally, check for 'best-by' or 'sell-by' dates falling between July 20 and August 17, 2026. If your carton matches these details, the FDA advises against consuming the eggs even if they appear or smell normal.
Safety Steps for Consumers
Midwest Poultry Services initiated the voluntary pull-back after salmonella was detected during environmental testing at two Texas-based farms. The company has currently suspended shipments from these locations while a full investigation into the source of the bacteria continues.
Anyone possessing these eggs should return them to the place of purchase for a refund or discard them immediately. It is also recommended to sanitize any fridge shelves or utensils that may have come into contact with the recalled cartons to prevent cross-contamination.
Common symptoms of infection include high fever, nausea, vomiting, and stomach cramps. Medical experts suggest contacting a doctor immediately if these symptoms appear, particularly for young children, the elderly, or those with compromised immune systems.
